Terms of Use for SpendLane
Last updated: 23 August 2026
These terms cover your use of the SpendLane mobile app, published by an independent developer ("I", "me") based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
Using the app means you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, please don't use the app.
1. What SpendLane is
SpendLane is a tool for recording and reviewing your own money: transactions, budgets, goals, debts and so on. It works offline and keeps your records on your device.
It does not connect to your bank. Nothing is imported automatically. Every figure in the app is one you typed in, imported from a file yourself, or generated from a rule you set up.
2. It isn't financial advice
This is the most important section here, so please read it.
SpendLane is a record keeping and arithmetic tool. It is not financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice, and I am not a licensed financial adviser, broker or accountant.
Specifically:
Forecasts, projections and "safe to spend" figures are estimates. They come from the data you entered plus straightforward arithmetic about your own past behaviour. They aren't predictions, guarantees or recommendations. Where the app says something like "at your current pace", that's exactly what it means and nothing more.
Insights, anomaly flags and suggested categories can be wrong. They're worked out on your device from your own history, and the app marks them as suggestions wherever it can.
Interest, EMI, yield and maturity calculations use standard formulas and the numbers you gave the app. They're there to illustrate. Your lender's or bank's figures are the ones that count, not mine.
Exchange rates in the app are published reference rates from the European Central Bank, obtained through a published exchange-rate service. They aren't a bank rate or a dealing rate, and they may differ from what you're actually charged.
Any decision you make using the app is your own. For advice about your particular situation, please talk to a qualified professional.
3. Your data is yours, and backing it up is on you
Your records live on your device, and there's a consequence to that which you should understand clearly.
⚠️ If you lose or reset your phone, or delete the app, your data goes with it. I don't hold a copy and I can't recover it for you.
The app gives you the tools to protect yourself. You can export a backup or a spreadsheet any time from Settings, Data & Backup, on every plan including the free one. Using them is up to you, and I'm not liable for data you didn't back up.
4. Free plan and Premium
The app is free to use, with limits on how many of certain things you can create. Settings, Plan & Usage shows the current numbers. Premium removes those limits and unlocks some extra features.
Nothing you've already recorded is ever deleted or hidden because of a plan limit. Hitting a limit only stops you adding more of that one thing until the next period, or until you upgrade.
Buying, renewing and cancelling
Premium is sold either as an auto-renewing monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time lifetime purchase.
All payments go through the App Store or Google Play under their terms. I never receive or handle your payment details.
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and you're charged at the start of each period at the price your store showed you when you bought it.
Cancel in the store, not in the app, from your Apple ID or Google Play account settings. You keep Premium until the end of the period you've already paid for, and after that the app goes back to the free plan on its own. Nothing you created gets deleted.
Free trials and introductory offers, where offered, are run by the store. Cancel before a trial ends if you don't want to be charged.
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies. I can't issue one, because I never received the payment. For Apple, use reportaproblem.apple.com. For Google, use your Play order history.
Your purchase belongs to your store account rather than to a particular handset, so use Restore Purchases on the upgrade screen when you move to a new phone or reinstall.
Prices can change. Your store will notify you of a change to a subscription price and give you the chance to accept it or cancel.
5. Fair use
Please don't:
- reverse engineer, decompile or tamper with the app, except where the law expressly allows it
- try to get around plan limits or obtain Premium features without paying
- redistribute, resell or sublicense the app
- use the app for anything illegal
6. Licence
You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own purposes. I keep the intellectual property rights in the app, its name and its design.
Your data isn't mine. This licence gives me no rights over the records you create.
7. Updates and availability
I may update the app to add, change or remove features, and I may stop publishing it. Because the app works offline, a version you've already installed keeps working on your device even if updates stop.
I may also update these terms. The date at the top will change, and anything significant will be mentioned in the app's release notes. Carrying on using the app after that means you accept the updated terms.
8. No warranty
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
I don't warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error free, or that any calculation, forecast or suggestion it produces will be accurate or suitable for your purposes.
Some places don't allow implied warranties to be excluded, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Consumer protection law where you live may give you rights that this section can't take away.
9. Limits on liability
As far as the law allows, I'm not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost savings, or lost or corrupted data, arising from your use of the app.
Where liability can't be excluded, my total liability to you is limited to whichever is greater of: the amount you paid me for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or ₹5,000.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts of Chennai, Tamil Nadu have exclusive jurisdiction. None of that affects any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.
11. Contact
Questions about these terms, or about the app in general:
I read every message myself and aim to reply within a few working days.
Purchases are the stores' department. Refunds, cancellations, failed payments and charges you do not recognise are handled by Apple or Google under their own terms (see section 4). I have no access to your card or billing details, and all the app learns from the store is which plan is active and when it expires.
